Neverness to Everness (NTE) officially launched on April 23, 2026. As Hotta Studio's major new title after Tower of Fantasy, this supernatural urban open-world action RPG carried high expectations. After extensive playtime, here is our comprehensive review.
Graphics & Presentation — 8.5/10
Built on Unreal Engine 5, NTE delivers impressive visuals. Hethereau's modern cityscape is rendered with fine detail, and the day-night cycle with weather systems brings the city to life. Character models and lighting effects reach the ceiling of mobile gaming, while PC supports 4K. The downside is high hardware requirements — mid-to-low-end phones may experience frame drops.
Combat System — 8.5/10
Combat is NTE's core highlight. Each character has unique Esper combat abilities with a fluid combo system and satisfying hit feedback. The parry mechanic adds strategic depth, and elemental counters make team composition meaningful. Combat pacing is faster than Genshin, closer to Wuthering Waves' action feel. The only weakness is some characters' long skill animations that can be interrupted in high-difficulty content.
Open World — 8/10
Hethereau is a rare modern urban open world in gaming. You can freely drive vehicles, enter buildings, and discover hidden content. Anomaly dungeons and containment missions provide rich exploration. The housing and City Tycoon system is a standout — earning a free S-rank character (Xiaozhi) through gameplay. However, the current map is smaller than Genshin or WuWa, awaiting future expansion.
Story & Characters — 8/10
You play as an unlicensed anomaly hunter joining the Eibon Antique Shop, tackling supernatural phenomena with diverse companions. The main story is well-paced with good suspense. 41 playable characters each have distinct personalities with strong VA talent (including notable Japanese voice actors). The affinity system lets you learn each character's backstory. Some side quests are uneven, but overall quality is solid.
Music & Collaborations — 9/10
NTE's music is excellently produced, with urban-style electronic scoring that perfectly matches the atmosphere. The pre-launch P5R (Persona 5 Royal) and Tower of Fantasy music collaborations are the icing on the cake, adding a trendy flair. These are remarkably high-profile collaborations in the global mobile gaming market.
Gacha Friendliness — 9.5/10
This is NTE's biggest differentiator. The limited banner has NO 50/50 mechanic — 90-pull pity guarantees the featured character. Beginner banner: 20 pulls guaranteed S-rank with selector. Standard banner: free S-rank selector at 50 pulls. Approximately 418 free pulls at launch give F2P players a great start. City Tycoon gives a free S-rank character. Compared to Genshin's 180-pull hard pity, NTE is dramatically more player-friendly.
