Quick Answer

Summary: A comprehensive review of Neverness to Everness CBT covering graphics, combat, story, and exploration, analyzing strengths and launch prospects.

The NTE closed beta test has concluded, and as someone who participated throughout, here are my honest impressions and comprehensive review.

Visuals are where NTE first impresses. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the game delivers stunning urban night scenes on PC at maximum settings. Rain reflections on pavement, neon lights in puddles, and particle effects during combat all represent the ceiling of mobile gaming graphics. However, these effects demand significant hardware, so mid-range phones may need lower settings for smooth performance.

Combat is another highlight. NTE uses real-time combat with character switching, each character having normal attacks, skills, and finishers. The most interesting mechanic is the "Anomaly Resonance" system - when two specific characters are on the same team, they trigger bonus resonance effects like attack buffs, shields, or healing. This encourages exploring different team compositions.

Story revolves around a modern city corrupted by "Anomalies." Your character has the ability to sense and purify these anomalies. The narrative style leans toward mystery and suspense with good pacing. Early chapters feel somewhat slow but from Chapter 4 the story accelerates with multiple plot threads converging. Character stories are well-developed with complete character arcs.

Exploration is richly designed with hidden chests, challenges, and collectibles scattered throughout the city. The Anomaly Sense ability is cleverly designed - players use it to discover hidden anomaly rifts and secret areas. Traversal is smooth with comprehensive teleport coverage.

The building system is relatively friendly. Main upgrade materials come from dailies and weeklies. The Disc system has random stats but can be adjusted with specific materials. S-rank and A-rank characters aren't too far apart in power - well-built A-ranks can handle most content.

Monetization follows industry standards. Monthly pass and battle pass offer good value. F2P players can accumulate decent resources through regular play. The test gave generous free resources, and launch should have substantial newbie rewards.

Sound design features original music blending electronic, rock, and orchestral elements. Combat sound effects provide satisfying feedback with crisp hit responses. Both Chinese and Japanese voice acting are excellent.

Overall rating: Graphics 9/10, Combat 8.5/10, Story 8/10, Exploration 8/10, Building 7.5/10. NTE is a polished anime open-world game worth trying at launch.
